He also found climate clues, like scratches from glaciers in now-tropical areas and fossils of plants in Antarctica, a polar region, that could only have lived in warmer climates.
Despite strong evidence, scientists rejected his idea since he couldn't explain how continents moved through solid ocean floors, and his comparison to an icebreaker cutting through ice was unconvincing.
