Oppervlakteactieve depletie in combinatie met schadelijke ventilatie resulteert in een reproduceerbaar model van het Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
Een combinatie van oppervlakteactieve stof washout met 0,9% zoutoplossing (35 ml/kg lichaamsgewicht, 37 °C) en een hoge getijdevolumeventilatie met een lage PEEP om matig beademingsgeïnduceerd longletsel (VILI) te veroorzaken, resulteert in experimenteel acuut respiratoir distress syndroom (ARDS). Deze methode biedt een model van longletsel met lage/ beperkte rekrutering om het effect van verschillende ventilatiestrategieën voor langere periodes te bestuderen.
