He received his undergraduate degree in Biophysical Chemistry from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. While at James Madison, Daniel, under Dr. Oleksandr Kokhan, researched heme-containing cytochromes to elucidate rate-determining mechanisms of small molecule-protein charge-transfer interactions. In addition, the water-soluble porphyrin induced multimerization of solution-state proteins was examined during his time at James Madison. Since continuing onto Ohio, Daniel joined Dr. Steffen Lindert's lab developing methodology to link experimentally-determined hydrogen-deuterium exchange rates and computational protein structure prediction using the Rosetta software suite framework.
