Shanvanth Rayal Arnipalli

I am a fourth-year student-athlete on the fencing team, majoring in Environmental Science with a specialization in Water Science. My research focuses are on biomedical nutrition and developmental psychology.

Firstly, I work in biomedical nutrition with the mentorship and guidance of Dr. Ouliana Ziouzenkova, and we focus on fundamental pathways regulating metabolic responses and examine their relevance for the development of various diseases. I have been trained on glucose uptake assays, cell culturing, animal handling and maintenance, and manuscript writing. I have co-authored five publications and am the first author of two published posters. I have also presented our work at ten conferences thus far. Secondly, I work in developmental psychology with Dr. Xin Feng, where we focus on the involvement of familial context and parental characteristics in child development. I have been trained in coding metaemotion philosophy interviews and socialization goal interviews. I am the first author on one published poster and have presented our work at four conferences thus far.

I am currently writing two undergraduate theses to graduate with honors research distinction. Under the supervision of Dr. Ziouzenkova, I am working with multiple myeloma. In this project, we aim to test nine novel structurally different amino acid compounds (AAC) for their cytotoxicity and effect on human multiple myeloma (MM) cell lines, as a potential way to develop cancer treatment drugs. AACs are small, charged compounds with modified side chains that can self-assemble into nanostructures. With Dr. Xin Feng, I am writing about parental metaemotion and practices toward child socialization goals shaped by environmental sociological imagination.
