Air-lifted Mobile Homecage

An air-lifted mobile homecage is a behavioral research apparatus that allows an animal’s familiar homecage to move through a controlled environment, supporting studies of behavior during naturalistic exploration. Compressed air generates a thin cushion beneath the cage, reducing contact friction and mechanical vibration so the cage can be repositioned smoothly while the animal remains inside. This design helps researchers examine locomotion, spatial navigation, exploration, and responses to changing environmental contexts without repeatedly transferring the animal to a test chamber. By combining homecage housing with controlled movement, the system can improve behavioral measurements and support experiments that link freely expressed behavior to neural or environmental conditions.

Lift

2025

Lift is a fundamental aerodynamic force that acts perpendicular to the direction of airflow. It plays a central role in achieving and sustaining flight and in stabilizing various vehicles. Lift primarily originates from pressure differences created across surfaces, such as an airfoil. A lower pressure region forms above the wing, while a higher pressure region forms below it, generating an upward force. This differential results from the shape and orientation of the airfoil, enabling the wing...

Source: David Guo, College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (CETA), Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), Manchester, New Hampshire A wing is the major lift-generating apparatus in an airplane. Wing performance can be further enhanced by deploying high-lift devices, such as flaps (at the trailing edge) and slats (at the leading edge) during takeoff or landing. In this experiment, a wind tunnel is utilized to generate certain airspeeds, and a Clark Y-14 wing with a flap and slat...

Electrophoretic Mobility Shift Assay (EMSA)

2023

The electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) is a biochemical procedure used to elucidate binding between proteins and nucleic acids. In this assay a radiolabeled nucleic acid and test protein are mixed. Binding is determined via gel electrophoresis which separates components based on mass, charge, and conformation. This video shows the concepts of EMSA and a general procedure, including gel and protein preparation, binding, electrophoresis, and detection. Applications covered in this video...
