Behavioral Pathways

Behavioral pathways are the sequences of biological, psychological, and environmental events that connect a stimulus or internal state to an observable behavior and its consequences. They operate through interactions among sensory input, neural processing, motivation, learning, and feedback from the environment, which can strengthen, modify, or inhibit behavioral responses. Studying these pathways helps researchers explain how organisms make decisions, adapt to changing conditions, and develop consistent behavioral patterns. In behavior research, pathway analysis supports investigations of learning, social interaction, stress responses, and animal or human health, while also identifying mechanisms that may be altered by disease, experience, or intervention.

Most plants use the C3 pathway for carbon fixation. However, some plants, such as sugar cane, corn, and cacti that grow in hot conditions, use alternative pathways to fix carbon and conserve energy loss due to photorespiration. Photorespiration is the process that occurs when the oxygen concentration is high. Under such conditions, the rubisco enzyme in the Calvin cycle binds O2 instead of CO2, which halts photosynthesis and consumes energy. C4 Pathway The C4 pathway is used by plants such as...

Here, we present a protocol to quantify nest building behavior in mice, which is known to be impaired in several neurological disorders and diseases. This protocol examines the utility of four materials and offers the opportunity to quantify the rater agreement in scoring, improving the validity and reliability of the assay.

The Hawk-Dove Game ExpandNOTE: In this activity, you will play the hawk and dove game with a single partner and then with multiple partners to observe hypothetical costs and benefits of the antagonist or cooperative behavior respectively. Before the activity starts, review the cost-benefit table so that you understand how to score the game. Click Here to download Table 1 HYPOTHESES: The experimental hypothesis for this exercise could be that the dove strategy will become more frequent between...
