Cartilage Pathology

Cartilage pathology is the study of structural and functional abnormalities in cartilage, tissue that supports joints, distributes mechanical loads, and enables smooth movement. Disease develops when chondrocyte activity, extracellular matrix maintenance, and mechanical forces become imbalanced, causing matrix degradation, altered tissue stiffness, inflammation, and reduced shock absorption. Examining how cartilage responds to loading and injury helps explain joint behavior in conditions such as osteoarthritis and traumatic damage. This field informs the evaluation of tissue degeneration, the design of biomaterials and regenerative therapies, and the development of treatments that preserve cartilage function and restore mobility.

The use of a model that mimics the condition of lung diseases in humans is critical for studying the pathophysiology and/or etiology of a particular disease and for developing therapeutic intervention. Here a noninvasive intratracheal intubation method that can directly deliver exogenous materials to mouse lungs is presented.

Organized brain cutting procedures are necessary to correlate specific neuropsychiatric phenomena with definitive neuropathologic diagnoses. Brain cuttings are performed differently based on various clinico-academic contingencies. This protocol describes a symmetric bihemispheric brain cutting procedure to investigate hemispheric differences in human brain pathologies and to maximize current and future biomolecular/neuroimaging techniques.
