Creative Assessment

Creative assessment is the systematic evaluation of how people generate, develop, and communicate novel and useful ideas, making it a valuable way to study behavior beyond conventional right-or-wrong measures. It typically uses open-ended tasks and structured rubrics to examine dimensions such as fluency, flexibility, originality, and the quality of responses, while behavioral observations can capture persistence, risk taking, and problem-solving strategies. In education, psychology, and organizational research, creative assessment helps characterize individual differences, evaluate learning environments, and identify conditions that support inventive behavior. Consistent scoring and clearly defined criteria improve comparisons across participants and settings.

2023

Source: Laboratories of Gary Lewandowski, Dave Strohmetz, and Natalie Ciarocco—Monmouth University Research studies come into being when a researcher speculates about human thought, emotions, or behavior, and has a theory that offers a potential explanation. Often the researcher’s theory is firmly situated in everyday common experiences that may not naturally lend themselves to direct empirical study. For example, researchers speculated that perception of a person on Facebook is influenced by...

We developed a protocol to assess well-being in mice during procedures using general anesthesia. A series of behavioral parameters indicating levels of well-being as well as glucocorticoid metabolites were analyzed. The protocol can serve as a general aid to estimate the degree of severity in a scientific, animal-centered manner.
