Custom Equipment

Custom equipment refers to purpose-built tools, apparatuses, or software systems designed to meet the specific requirements of a research or operational task. In behavioral science, these systems can deliver controlled stimuli, detect responses through sensors or switches, and record variables such as timing, frequency, and accuracy under standardized conditions. Researchers use custom equipment to study learning, decision-making, social interactions, and motor behavior when commercial devices cannot provide the needed control, precision, or accessibility. By aligning measurement hardware and experimental procedures with a defined research question, custom designs can improve data quality, support reproducible experiments, and enable investigations of behaviors that are difficult to capture with general-purpose equipment.

Electrical Safety Precautions and Basic Equipment

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. Electric machines and power electronics experiments involve electrical currents, voltages, power, and energy quantities that should be handled with extreme diligence and care. These may include three-phase AC voltage (208 V, 230 V, or 480 V), up to 250 V DC voltages, and currents that can reach 10 A. Electrocution occurs when an electrical path is established through the body with very low currents...

Leveling Equipment

As leveling involves measuring vertical distances relative to a horizontal line of sight, it requires a graduated rod, called a level rod, for vertical measurements and an instrument called a level for a horizontal sight line. A level includes a high-powered telescope with a mechanism for leveling to ensure the line of sight is horizontal when the bubble in the spirit level is centered. Leveling rods, made of wood, metal, or fiberglass, are graduated in feet or meters and commonly used in two-...

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Dana Lashley - College of William and Mary Demonstrated by: Timothy Beck and Lucas Arney Many reactions in organic chemistry are moisture-sensitive and must be carried out under careful exclusion of water. In these cases the reagents have a high affinity to react with water from the atmosphere and if left exposed the desired reaction will not take place or give poor yields, because the reactants are chemically altered. In order to prevent undesired reactions with H2O...

Customer Lifetime Value

2024

Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) is a metric that quantifies the total revenue a business expects to earn from a customer throughout their entire relationship. It involves predicting the monetary value a customer will bring over time, factoring in their purchasing patterns, frequency, and duration of engagement. CLV is crucial for businesses to assess the long-term profitability of acquiring and retaining customers. By understanding the value each customer contributes, companies can optimize...
