Database-driven Stimulus Selection

Database-driven stimulus selection is a method for choosing experimental stimuli from a structured collection using predefined behavioral, perceptual, or semantic criteria. Rather than relying on ad hoc choices, researchers query stimulus records and filter or rank items according to properties such as category, similarity, frequency, or experimental condition, creating a reproducible selection process. In behavioral research, this approach supports controlled studies of perception, learning, memory, and decision-making by improving consistency across participants and experiments. It also enables systematic stimulus matching, efficient dataset construction, and transparent replication, helping researchers distinguish effects of the intended manipulation from unintended differences among individual stimuli.

Database Searching

2026

Effective research begins with the ability to navigate academic databases efficiently. Unlike general web search engines, scholarly databases are designed to index peer-reviewed articles, conference proceedings, and other credible academic publications. Developing a structured search strategy ensures that researchers can identify relevant, high-quality sources with precision. For example, when studying how sleep patterns relate to circadian rhythms in humans, researchers should move beyond...

A thoracic oncology database was developed to serve as a comprehensive repository for clinical and laboratory data for the purposes of translational research. The database will serve translational cancer researchers within the Thoracic Oncology Research Program. This database is adaptable to other cancer models, as well as other human diseases.

Inducing Axonal Varicosities with a Micromechanical Stimulus on Neurons

2025

This video demonstrates the induction of axonal varicosities by applying micromechanical stimulus on neurons. The system comprises a micropipette attached to a syringe containing buffer via tubing. Using a micromanipulator, the micropipette is positioned above the neurons. Fluid pressure is then applied to induce varicosities in axons.
