Feeding Intervention

Feeding intervention is a structured approach for improving eating behaviors, such as food refusal, limited food variety, or difficulty accepting meals. In behavior science, interventions identify environmental factors that influence eating and then use procedures such as prompting, shaping, differential reinforcement, and systematic exposure to build appropriate responses. Clinicians may track acceptance, refusal, food variety, and mealtime behavior to evaluate progress and adjust treatment. These interventions support safer, more consistent nutrition and can help children and individuals with developmental or behavioral challenges participate more successfully in daily meals.

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. Monitoring Animals for Signs of Pain and Distress Recognizing early signs of pain is essential for ethical animal research. Animals are routinely monitored using behavioral, physical, and physiological parameters that reflect...

Zebrafish are emerging as a valuable model of dietary lipid processing and metabolic disease. Described are protocols of lipid-rich larval feeds, live imaging of dietary fluorescent lipid analogs, and quantification of food intake. These techniques can be applied to a variety of screening, imaging, and hypothesis driven inquiry techniques.

Nursing Interventions I: Taxonomy of Nursing Interventions

Nursing interventions are chosen as part of the planning process to achieve patient outcomes. Once nursing diagnoses are determined, the goals and outcomes are specified, then the nursing interventions are selected and individualized according to the patient's situation. A nursing intervention is a treatment or action based on scientific concepts and knowledge from the nursing, behavioral, and physical sciences. Identifying and prioritizing nursing interventions based on the desired outcome is...

Functional Analysis of the Larval Feeding Circuit in Drosophila

2013

The feeding circuit in Drosophila melanogaster larvae serves a simple yet powerful model that allows changes in feeding rate to be correlated with alterations in the stomatogastric neural circuitry. This circuit is composed of central serotonergic neurons that send projections to the mouth hooks as well as the foregut.
