Intensity Levels Visualization

Intensity levels visualization is a way to represent the strength, frequency, or magnitude of behavior across a defined scale, making differences easier to interpret than raw observations alone. It works by assigning observed or measured behaviors to ordered levels and displaying them with visual features such as color, size, position, or shading, while consistent criteria support meaningful comparisons. In behavioral research, these visualizations help summarize observation data, reveal patterns or changes over time, and communicate relationships between conditions and behavioral responses. They can support hypothesis development, data interpretation, and clearer reporting in studies of animal or human behavior.

Sound Intensity Level

Humans perceive sound by hearing. The human ear helps sound waves reach the brain, which then interprets the waves and creates the perception of hearing. The loudness of the environment in which a person is located determines whether they can distinguish between different sound sources. The human ear can perceive an extensive range of sound intensity, necessitating the use of the logarithmic scale to define a physical quantity—the intensity level. It is a ratio of two intensities and hence a...

This protocol describes a randomized controlled trial as a method to test the effect of a video demonstration on the intra-individual difference between self-reported and accelerometer-based moderate-to-vigorous physical activity.

Impact of High-intensity Interval Exercise and Moderate-Intensity Continuous Exercise on the Cardiac Troponin T Level at an Early Stage of Training

Here, we present protocols of high-intensity interval and moderate-intensity continuous exercise to observe the response of circulating cardiac troponin T (cTnT) concentration to acute exercise over 10 days. The information may assist with clinical interpretations of post-exercise cTnT elevation and guide the prescription of exercise.

Blood Oxygen Level-Dependent Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Visual Cortex

Source: Galenchik-Chan, A., et al. Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) of the Visual Cortex with Wide-View Retinotopic Stimulation. J. Vis. Exp. (2023). The video demonstrates functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of the visual cortex to map activity based on blood oxygenation levels. Structural MRI images are acquired as anatomical references, followed by fMRI scans. Visual stimuli are displayed to activate retinotopic neurons in the visual cortex. The increased energy demand...

Sound Intensity

The loudness of a sound source is related to how energetically the source is vibrating, consequently making the molecules of the propagation medium vibrate. To measure the loudness of a source, the physical quantity of interest is the intensity. This is defined as the energy emitted per unit of time per unit of area perpendicular to the sound wave's propagation direction. Since the total energy is greater if the source vibrates for a longer duration and over a larger area, dividing the emitted...
