Fixation Proportion Measurement

Fixation proportion measurement is a behavioral analysis that quantifies the fraction of observation time or recorded fixations directed toward a particular object, region, or stimulus. In eye-tracking studies, it is calculated by identifying periods when gaze remains relatively stable, classifying each fixation by its spatial location, and dividing fixations or fixation duration in a target area by the relevant total. Researchers use this measure to assess visual attention, preference, learning, and decision-making across tasks and participant groups. Because it provides a normalized index of gaze allocation, fixation proportion measurement supports comparisons among stimuli and helps reveal how attention changes with context, salience, or behavioral demands.

Sample Proportion and Population Proportion

Collecting samples or responses from an entire population takes significant time and effort, so a researcher collects responses from only a sample of that population. Suppose a study needs to collect information about a specific mobile application. After sample collection, the researcher analyzes the data and discovers that most individuals in the sample use that specific mobile application. The sample proportion measures the number of individuals in a sample who either use or don't use the...

Two basic types of preparation are used to visualize specimens with a light microscope: wet mounts and fixed specimens. The simplest type of preparation is the wet mount, in which the specimen is placed in a drop of liquid on the slide. A liquid specimen can be directly deposited on the slide using a dropper. Solid specimens, such as skin scraping, can be placed on the slide before adding a drop of liquid to prepare the wet mount. Sometimes the liquid is simply water, but stains are often added...
