Open-source Toolbox

An open-source toolbox is a collection of openly licensed software, code, and supporting resources that researchers can inspect, adapt, and share for a defined scientific purpose. In behavior research, modular tools can connect tasks such as stimulus presentation, response recording, data preprocessing, and analysis into a reproducible workflow; exposing implementation details also enables customization and community contributions. These resources can lower technical barriers, improve transparency, and support error checking and reuse across laboratories and experimental settings. As behavioral methods evolve, open-source toolboxes make established approaches easier to validate, extend, and apply to new research questions.

2023

Source: Robert M. Rioux & Suprita Jharimune, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA Working with extreme temperatures, both high and low, is an integral part of many laboratory operations. For many, mentioning a laboratory instantly evokes the mental picture of a Bunsen burner. Bunsen burners and hot plates are used extensively in small and large operations in research laboratories and industries, thus making it necessary for all users to be aware of their safe handling...

Misinformation & Source Credibility

2026

The rapid expansion of online information has increased access to knowledge while also increasing the risk of misinformation. Sources that appear authoritative may lack scholarly rigor, which makes credibility assessment a critical part of research literacy. Evaluating the reliability of information helps prevent the inclusion of weak, biased, or misleading material in academic work. Publication Source and Authorship A primary consideration is the publication source. Scholarly journals and...

A Neural Implant Design Toolbox for Nonhuman Primates

2024

This paper outlines automated processes for nonhuman primate neurosurgical planning based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. These techniques use procedural steps in programming and design platforms to support customized implant design for NHPs. The validity of each component can then be confirmed using three-dimensional (3D) printed life-size anatomical models.
