Dual-modal Microscopy

Dual-modal microscopy combines two complementary imaging techniques to characterize biological samples with greater structural and functional detail than either modality alone. The system acquires images through distinct contrast mechanisms, such as label-based fluorescence and label-free optical imaging, then aligns the datasets through spatial registration so features can be compared in the same specimen. In bioengineering, this approach supports analysis of cell morphology, biomaterials, tissue organization, and dynamic cellular behavior while reducing reliance on a single measurement type. By integrating complementary information, dual-modal microscopy can improve quantitative characterization and guide the design of engineered tissues, diagnostics, and therapeutic systems.
