Ecm Microcarriers

ECM microcarriers are small, suspended culture supports coated or composed with extracellular matrix components that help anchorage-dependent cells grow in three-dimensional bioreactors. Their matrix proteins provide adhesion ligands that promote cell attachment, spreading, and proliferation, while the carrier’s high surface area enables efficient expansion in stirred or agitated cultures. In bioengineering, ECM microcarriers support the production of therapeutic cells, tissue-engineered constructs, and cell-based products. By presenting biologically relevant signals while improving scalability and handling, they help bridge laboratory cell culture with manufacturing and regenerative medicine applications.

Fibronectins Connect Cells with ECM

2023

Fibronectin is an adhesive glycoprotein present in the extracellular matrix of embryogenic and adult tissue. These molecules primarily aid in regulating cell motility and attachment. A fibronectin molecule is composed of two identical polypeptide chains attached to each other by a pair of disulfide bonds at the C-terminal. Both proteoglycans and collagen are attached to fibronectin proteins, which, in turn, are attached to integrin proteins. These integrin proteins interact with transmembrane...
