Nanosheet Self-assembly

Nanosheet self-assembly is the spontaneous organization of nanoscale building blocks into thin, sheet-like structures through coordinated noncovalent interactions, offering a route to materials with controlled architecture and high surface area. In bioengineering, molecules such as peptides, proteins, lipids, or polymers can assemble when changes in concentration, pH, temperature, solvent, or ionic strength balance attractive and repulsive forces, producing ordered two-dimensional networks. These nanosheets can provide platforms for biomolecule presentation, sensing, drug delivery, tissue interfaces, and regenerative materials. Controlling assembly conditions helps tune sheet thickness, morphology, stability, and function, supporting the design of biomimetic materials and nanoscale systems for biomedical research.
