Voiding Pressures

Voiding pressures are the pressures generated within the lower urinary tract during bladder emptying, providing a functional measure of how effectively urine flows through the urethra. During voiding, detrusor muscle contraction raises intravesical pressure while coordinated relaxation of the bladder neck and urethral sphincter lowers outlet resistance; the resulting pressure difference drives urine flow. In bioengineering, pressure measurements obtained through urodynamic testing can be paired with flow rate, bladder volume, and imaging to characterize urinary function, identify obstruction or impaired contractility, and evaluate prosthetic or tissue-engineered solutions. These data also support computational models of bladder and urethral mechanics.

Total Voids in Concrete

2024

Total voids in concrete encompass gel water volume, capillary pores, and entrapped air. Gel water (retained within the cement hydration products) and physically entrapped or adsorbed water are significant for the hydration process. For complete hydration, it's estimated that the space needed for the products of a cubic centimeter of cement doubles. Capillary pores constitute the unoccupied space within the hydrated cement paste, with their size largely influenced by the water-to-cement ratio...

The laser heated diamond anvil cell combined with synchrotron micro-diffraction techniques allows researchers to explore the nature and properties of new phases of matter at extreme pressure and temperature (PT) conditions. Heterogeneous samples can be characterized in situ under high pressure by 2D mapping and combined powder, single-crystal and multigrain diffraction approaches.

This article describes a new method to study mouse voiding behavior by incorporating video monitoring in the conventional void spot assay. This approach provides temporal, spatial, and volumetric information on the voiding events and details of mouse behavior during the light and dark phases of the day.

Voiding Cystourethrography (VCUG) and Cystography are specialized radiographic procedures used to examine the structure and function of the bladder and urethra.Voiding Cystourethrography (VCUG)A Voiding Cystourethrogram (VCUG) is a diagnostic imaging procedure that assesses the anatomy and function of the lower urinary tract. It focuses on the bladder, bladder neck, and urethra, helping detect abnormalities such as vesicoureteral reflux (VUR)—the backward or reverse flow of urine into the...
