384-well Microplate

A 384-well microplate is a laboratory plate containing 384 separate wells that hold small reaction volumes, enabling researchers to perform many biological assays in parallel. Each well serves as an individual reaction chamber, where automated liquid-handling systems dispense samples, reagents, and controls before measurements such as absorbance, fluorescence, or luminescence are recorded. The format supports high-throughput screening, nucleic acid and protein assays, cell-based experiments, and dilution series while reducing reagent use compared with lower-density plates. Careful plate layout, mixing, evaporation control, and consistent pipetting are essential for reliable results, making 384-well plates valuable in research, diagnostics, and drug development.

Introduction to the Microplate Reader

2023

The microplate reader is a multimodal instrument that allows for a variety of experiments to be performed and measured simultaneously. Microplate readers can make absorbance, fluorescence and luminescence measurements. Multiwell plates are integral to the microplate reader and allow for many experiments to be performed at once. Regardless of the assay type, experiments on the plate reader utilize a standard curve to determine the experimental values. This curve uses samples of known...
