Acupoint Stimulation

Acupoint stimulation is a therapeutic and experimental technique that activates defined points on the body to investigate or influence physiological function. Depending on the method, stimulation uses needles, manual pressure, heat, or electrical currents, which can engage local sensory receptors and alter signaling through peripheral nerves, the spinal cord, and autonomic pathways. In biology and biomedical research, acupoint stimulation is used to study pain processing, inflammation, stress responses, and neuroendocrine regulation. Controlled protocols and measurable outcomes help researchers evaluate its mechanisms, distinguish specific effects from nonspecific responses, and assess its potential role in integrative health care.
