Bronchi

Bronchi are the major air passages that branch from the trachea and conduct air into the lungs, making them essential for ventilation and gas exchange. Each primary bronchus divides into smaller secondary and tertiary bronchi, which continue branching into bronchioles; cartilage helps maintain airway structure, while smooth muscle and mucus-producing tissue regulate airflow and trap inhaled particles. In biology and medicine, the bronchi provide a framework for understanding respiratory anatomy, airway defense, and disorders such as bronchitis and asthma. Studying their structure and function supports respiratory research, diagnostic imaging, and the development of treatments that improve airway patency.

Pig Bronchiolar Tissue Extraction: A Procedure to Dissect Bronchiolar Tissue Sections From Porcine Lungs

2025

In this video, we describe a surgical procedure to extract bronchiolar tissues from harvested pig lung. The ex vivo bronchiolar tissue could be used to develop infection models for studying chronic lung infections.

Agarose-Based Preparation of Human Precision-Cut Lung Slices

2025

In this video, we describe a procedure to inflate isolated human lungs with agarose and prepare human precision-cut lung slices. The prepared ex vivo lung slices can be used for further immunologic experiments.

Using Micro-computed Tomography for the Assessment of Tumor Development and Follow-up of Response to Treatment in a Mouse Model of Lung Cancer

We describe a method for the detection of tumor nodule development in the lungs of an adenocarcinoma mouse model using micro-computed tomography and its use for monitoring changes in nodule size over time and in response to treatment. The accuracy of the assessment was confirmed with end-point histological quantification.

Cardiopulmonary Complex Decellularization: A Technique for Decellularizing Heart and Lungs from Murine Model

2025

This video demonstrates a method of producing decellularized extracellular matrix or ECM scaffolds by applying antegrade perfusion of detergents through the vasculature. The structural ECM scaffolds can then be used to analyze ECM remodeling associated with cardiopulmonary disease.

Tracheal Intubation for Mechanical Ventilation: A Procedure to Insert Endotracheal Tube in Trachea of Rabbit Model

2025

In this video, we demonstrate the tracheal intubation — an invasive procedure for insertion of an endotracheal tube through the mouth in a rabbit model. This procedure allows for mechanical ventilation of the lungs.
