Computer Simulations

Computer simulations are computational models that represent real-world systems and predict how they behave under defined conditions. In biology, researchers translate biological processes into mathematical rules, algorithms, and adjustable parameters, then run repeated calculations to examine changes over time or compare experimental scenarios. These models can represent molecular interactions, cellular dynamics, population growth, disease transmission, or ecosystem responses, helping researchers test hypotheses that may be difficult, expensive, or unethical to study directly. By linking simulation results with laboratory and field data, computer simulations support prediction, experimental design, and interpretation while revealing how complex biological systems emerge from interacting components.

2012

An efficient way to gain insight into how humans navigate themselves in three dimensions is described. The method takes advantage of a motion simulator capable of moving observers in ways unattainable by traditional simulators. Results confirm that movement in the horizontal plane is underestimated, while vertical movement is overestimated.

2017

The siphon breaking phenomenon was investigated experimentally and a theoretical model was proposed. A simulation program based on the theoretical model was developed and the results of the simulation program were compared with experimental results. It was concluded that the results of the simulation program matched the experimental results well.
