Control Tastant Setup

Control tastant setup is the preparation of standardized taste stimuli and reference solutions used to distinguish genuine taste responses from effects caused by the solvent, concentration, delivery method, or experimental handling. The setup typically uses a defined tastant concentration in a matched vehicle, with control and test solutions presented under equivalent conditions so that differences in behavior or physiological activity can be attributed to the tastant itself. In biology, these controls support reliable taste-preference assays, sensory-response measurements, and studies of chemosensory receptors. Careful setup improves reproducibility, strengthens comparisons among treatments, and helps identify nonspecific effects.

2015

Transcranial magnetic stimulation, electromyography, and 3D motion capture are commonly used non-invasive techniques for investigating neuromuscular function in humans. In this paper, we describe a protocol that synchronously samples data generated by all three of these tools along with the unique addition of virtual reality stimulus presentation and feedback.

A fast and inexpensive method for the behavioral determination of hearing parameters like hearing thresholds, hearing impairments or phantom perceptions (subjective tinnitus) is described. It uses pre-pulse inhibition of the acoustic startle response and can be easily implemented in a personal computer using a programmable AD/DA-converter and a piezo sensor.

2014

The current study evaluates a novel procedure for assessing the reinforcing effects of palatable solutions in laboratory rats: intraoral self-administration. To this end, operant responding (i.e. lever pressing) for intraoral infusions of sweet solutions at different concentrations was measured on continuous and progressive ratios schedules of reinforcement.
