Cover Glass Mounting

Cover glass mounting is the process of placing and securing a coverslip over a biological specimen on a microscope slide to preserve its structure and support clear imaging. It typically uses a mounting medium that surrounds the sample, helps prevent drying and movement, and provides an optical interface between the specimen and objective lens. Careful positioning and gentle pressure distribute the medium evenly while minimizing air bubbles, and curing or sealing the preparation can improve long-term stability. In biology, cover glass mounting supports bright-field, phase-contrast, and fluorescence microscopy, enabling researchers to examine cell morphology, tissue organization, and labeled structures in preserved preparations.

The Looking Glass Self

The concept of the looking-glass self describes how an individual's self-concept is shaped by their perception of how others see them. This psychological theory, first introduced by sociologist Charles Horton Cooley in 1902, posits that self-identity emerges in a social context and is influenced by the judgments—real or imagined—of others.Research suggests that individuals frequently overestimate how positively others perceive them. This is particularly evident in physical self-perception,...

2014

The zebrafish embryo is an excellent model for developmental biology research. During embryogenesis, zebrafish develop with a yolk mass, which presents three-dimensional challenges for sample observation and analysis. This protocol describes how to create two-dimensional flat mount preparations of whole mount in situ (WISH) stained zebrafish embryo specimens.

Cilia of olfactory sensory neurons contain proteins of the signal transduction cascade, but a detailed spatial analysis of their distribution is difficult in cryosections. We describe here an optimized approach for whole mount labeling and en face visualization of ciliary proteins.
