Forward Scattering Model

A forward scattering model is a mathematical or computational description of how light is redirected at small angles after interacting with particles or biological structures, helping relate measured optical signals to physical properties. It typically calculates scattering intensity from factors such as particle size, shape, refractive index, wavelength, and surrounding medium, using electromagnetic scattering principles and assumptions about the sample. In biology, it supports interpretation of flow cytometry signals, cell and microorganism characterization, and optical measurements of tissues or suspensions, where differences in forward-scattered light can indicate changes in size, structure, or composition. By linking instrument output with physical models, it enables more quantitative analysis and comparison of biological samples.

Saturable and reverse saturable scattering were discovered in isolated plasmonic particles and adopted as a novel non-bleaching contrast method in super-resolution microscopy. Here the experimental procedures of detecting and extracting nonlinear scattering are explained in detail, as well as how to enhance resolution with the aid of saturated excitation microscopy.

Scatter Plot

2023

The most common and easiest way to display the relationship between two variables, x and y, is a scatter plot. A scatter plot shows the direction of a relationship between the variables. A clear direction happens when there is either: High values of one variable occurring with high values of the other variable or low values of one variable occurring with low values of the other variable. High values of one variable occurring with low values of the other variable. One can determine the...
