Immunological Response Study

An immunological response study examines how the immune system detects and responds to foreign substances, pathogens, or altered cells, providing insight into health and disease. It typically evaluates coordinated innate and adaptive mechanisms, including antigen recognition, antigen presentation, cytokine signaling, lymphocyte activation, and antibody production. In biology, these studies help characterize infection, inflammation, vaccination, allergy, autoimmunity, and immune deficiencies. By measuring cellular or molecular responses under defined conditions, researchers can determine how effectively immunity is activated, regulated, or disrupted, supporting the development of vaccines, diagnostics, and immune-based therapies.

Bacterial Cell Staining and Preparation for Immunological Studies

2025

This video demonstrates the staining and preparation of bacterial cells for immunological studies using red fluorescent dye. The stained bacteria are diluted and resuspended in a growth medium to achieve the desired bacterial concentration for host cell infection, representing the multiplicity of infection.

Supported Planar Bilayers for the Formation of Study of Immunological Synapses and Kinapse

Supported planar bilayers are powerful tools that can be used to model the molecular interactions in an immunological synapse. Here, we show methods for anchoring cell adhesion proteins known to modulate synapse formation to the upper leaflet of the lipid bilyer and visualize synapse formation using TIRF microscopy.

Opsonophagocytic Killing Assay to Assess Immunological Responses Against Bacterial Pathogens

This opsonophagocytic killing assay is used to compare the ability of phagocytic immune cells to respond to and kill bacteria based on different treatments and/or conditions. Classically, this assay serves as the gold standard for assessing effector functions of antibodies raised against a bacterium as opsonin.

Visual analytics (VA) is a new approach of analyzing data interactively. In this video, we discuss the data overload problem brought on by high-throughput biological experiments, and propose VA as a solution to such problem. The video demonstrates analysis within and between immunological datasets using a VA tool called Tableau.
