Microvascular Length Measurement

Microvascular length measurement is the quantitative assessment of the total length of small blood vessels, providing a structural indicator of vascular development, remodeling, and tissue health. In biological imaging, researchers typically identify microvessels in microscopy images, segment the vessel network from surrounding tissue, and calculate the length of each vessel or its traced centerline after spatial calibration. Measurements can be summarized as total length, length density, or changes between experimental conditions. These data support studies of angiogenesis, disease-associated vascular remodeling, tissue regeneration, and responses to drugs or environmental stress, helping link microscopic vessel structure with physiological function.

Pancreatic islet microvascular vasomotion regulates islet blood distribution and maintains the physiological function of islet β cells. This protocol describes using a laser Doppler monitor to determine the functional status of pancreatic islet microvascular vasomotion in vivo and to assess the contributions of pancreatic islet microcirculation to pancreatic-related diseases.

Quantitative In vitro Assay to Measure Neutrophil Adhesion to Activated Primary Human Microvascular Endothelial Cells under Static Conditions

Neutrophil adherence to the activated endothelium at sites of infection is an integral component of the host's inflammatory response. Described in this report is a neutrophil binding assay that allows for the in vitro quantitation of primary human neutrophil binding to endothelial cells activated by inflammatory mediators under static conditions.

Measurement of Myocardial Lactate Production for Diagnosis of Coronary Microvascular Spasm

Myocardial lactate production (coronary arterial-venous difference in serum lactate level) during coronary spasm provocation testing is considered as a highly sensitive marker that reflects acetylcholine-induced myocardial ischemia due to microvascular spasm. This article presents the procedures to assess myocardial lactate production for the diagnosis of coronary microvascular spasm.

There are many available options for management of the patient with trigeminal neuralgia. Microvascular decompression, while the most invasive of all options, is also the most effective at achieving long term remission of symptoms. Video instruction on how to maximize efficacy and minimize complications with this procedure is described.

We present a protocol to isolate adipose tissue-derived microvascular fragments that represent promising vascularization units. They can be rapidly isolated, do not require in vitro processing and, thus, may be used for one-step prevascularization in different fields of tissue engineering.
