Mirror Placement

Mirror placement is the deliberate positioning of reflective surfaces in a biological experiment to modify visual information or provide controlled visual feedback. A mirror changes the apparent location, direction, or number of visual stimuli by reflecting light, allowing researchers to compare behavior under direct-view and reflected-view conditions while controlling angle, distance, and illumination. In biology, this approach supports studies of visual perception, spatial orientation, body awareness, and self-recognition in animals, as well as investigations of lateralized behavior and motor responses. Careful placement and standardized conditions help separate responses to reflection from responses caused by environmental cues or experimental disturbance.

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Colloquially, the terms learning and memory encompass a broad range of behaviors and mental systems, everything from learning to tie a shoe to mastering calculus (and a lot in between). Experimental psychologists have divided up learning mechanisms into groups that seem to have different properties, and that seem to rely on different brain systems. A major division is between declarative and non-declarative memory, roughly, the...

Blood pressure monitoring is one of the essential vital signs, and for a majority of patients, measuring it utilizing non-invasive techniques provides accurate values. However, there are situations in which the blood pressure requires more exact, specific, and reliable measurements.

Source: Julianna Jung, MD, FACEP, Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Maryland, USA For unstable patients requiring urgent administration of medications, fluids, or blood products, establishing vascular access quickly is essential. However, there are many factors that can complicate placement of a peripheral intravenous cannula (PIV), and it is extremely common for PIV attempts to fail. PIV placement may be technically challenging in small...
