Molecular Alterations

Molecular alterations are changes in the structure, sequence, abundance, or activity of biological molecules, including DNA, RNA, and proteins, that can modify cellular function. They arise through mechanisms such as genetic mutation, DNA damage, epigenetic modification, altered gene expression, or post-translational change, which can disrupt or reshape molecular pathways and cell signaling. In biology, analyzing molecular alterations helps explain development, adaptation, aging, and disease, while supporting the identification of biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Techniques such as DNA sequencing, transcriptomics, proteomics, and molecular assays enable researchers to detect these changes, compare healthy and affected cells, and connect molecular events with observable biological outcomes.

Alterations in Respiration II

2024

There are numerous types of normal and abnormal respiration. Based on ventilatory movements, breathing patterns are classified as regular, deep, or shallow. Examples include Biot's breathing, Cheyne-Stokes respiration, Kussmaul's breathing, hyperventilation, and hypoventilation. Each pattern is clinically significant and aids in evaluating patients. In Biot's breathing, the respiratory rate and depth are irregular, alternating between periods of deep gasping and apnea. Common causes include...

Altered States of Awareness

2024

Altered states of consciousness represent significant deviations from one's normal mental state. These deviations can range from subtle changes in awareness to profound transformations in perception, thought processes, and sensory experiences. Altered states of consciousness can be triggered by various factors, including drug use, meditation, hypnosis, illness, or even intense fatigue. The ingestion of substances like stimulants or hallucinogens leads to chemical alterations in the brain that...

2023

Molecular signals play a major role in the complex processes occurring during embryonic development. These signals regulate activities such as cell differentiation and migration, which contribute to the formation of specific cell types and structures. The use of molecular approaches allows researchers to investigate these physical and chemical mechanisms in detail. This video will review a brief history of the study of molecular events during development. Next, key questions asked by molecular...

Alterations in Muscle Tone ll

2026

Alterations in muscle tone are common manifestations of neurological disorders and reflect dysfunction within different nervous system regions. Spasticity, paratonia, and dystonia represent distinct forms of hypertonia, each with unique mechanisms, clinical features, and diagnostic importance.CharacteristicsSpasticity happens from upper motor neuron lesions and is characterized by velocity-dependent resistance to passive movement. Clinical features include:Exaggerated deep tendon reflexesClonus...
