Mouth Micropipetting

Mouth micropipetting is a manual technique for transferring very small liquid volumes with a micropipette or fine glass capillary rather than a mechanical pipetting device. By creating suction through a mouthpiece, the operator draws liquid into the capillary and controls delivery by releasing suction or applying gentle pressure. Historically, this approach supported biological tasks requiring precise handling of cell suspensions, reagents, or microscopic specimens. However, direct mouth contact creates a risk of ingesting or inhaling hazardous material, so modern laboratories replace it with calibrated mechanical pipettors and follow strict biosafety practices.

2025

A thorough mouth assessment, including inspection and palpation of the lips, gums, tongue, tonsils, uvula, and pharynx, is crucial in detecting potential health issues. Diseases ranging from oral cancer to systemic conditions like diabetes could be identified early through careful oral examination. This article provides a detailed guide on conducting a comprehensive mouth assessment. Mouth Inspection The inspection begins with visually examining the mouth for symmetry, color, and size.

Here, we present a refined protocol to effectively reveal biotinylated dextran amine (BDA) labeling with a fluorescent staining method through a reciprocal neural pathway. It is suitable for analyzing the fine structure of BDA labeling and distinguishing it from other neural elements under a confocal laser scanning microscope.
