Pelvic Floor Muscles

Pelvic floor muscles are a group of skeletal muscles that span the base of the pelvis, supporting pelvic organs and contributing to urinary and fecal continence, sexual function, and trunk stability. They work through controlled contraction and relaxation, adjusting tension as intra-abdominal pressure changes and coordinating with the diaphragm, abdominal wall, and anal and urethral sphincters. In biology, studying these muscles clarifies how structure, nerve supply, and motor control support homeostasis, while clinical and exercise research applies this knowledge to pelvic pain, incontinence, pregnancy, and rehabilitation.

They are typically divided into the superficial perineal layer and the deep pelvic floor layer. Perineal Layer The perineum is a diamond-shaped area below the pelvic diaphragm, divided into an anterior urogenital triangle that contains the external genitals and a posterior anal triangle housing the anus. The urogenital...

A price floor is a policy tool that sets a legal minimum price for a good or service. It is often implemented to protect producers from falling prices and ensure a fair income, particularly in the agricultural sector. However, when the price floor is established above the equilibrium price, it can disrupt the natural market balance. This can lead to unintended consequences such as lost consumer surplus and reduced market efficiency. When a price floor is imposed above the market-clearing price,...
