Piezoelectric Transducer

A piezoelectric transducer is a device that converts mechanical energy into electrical signals, or electrical energy into mechanical motion, using materials with piezoelectric properties. When these materials undergo compression, vibration, or other mechanical strain, charge accumulates across their surfaces; conversely, an applied voltage causes controlled deformation and often produces ultrasonic waves. In biology, piezoelectric transducers support ultrasound imaging, acoustic manipulation, biosensing, and microfluidic control by transmitting or detecting sound and mechanical forces. Their high sensitivity and rapid response enable noninvasive measurements of tissue structure, cellular behavior, fluid movement, and biomolecular interactions, making them valuable in diagnostics and experimental research.

Investigating the Potential of Singly Curved Thin Piezoelectric Transducers for Energy Harvesting and Structural Health Monitoring

2025

Here, we experimentally compare singly curved and straight piezoelectric transducers embedded in reinforced concrete structures for energy harvesting and structural health monitoring by evaluating their open-circuit voltage, power generation, power storage, and damage detection capability. Curved transducers have surpassed the straight ones, offering better performance for real-world applications.

One-step fabrication method for obtaining freestanding epitaxial double heterostructure is presented. This approach could achieve ZnO coverage with a higher number density than that of the epitaxial single heterostructure, leading to a piezoelectric nanogenerator with an increased output electrical performance.

Pressure Transducer: Calibration Using a Pitot-static Tube

2023

Source: Shreyas Narsipur, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC Fluid pressure is an important flow characteristic that is required to determine the aerodynamics of a system. One of the oldest and still existing pressure measurement systems is the manometer due to its accuracy and simplicity of operation. The manometer is generally a U-shaped glass tube that is partially filled with liquid, as shown in Figure 1. The U-tube manometer requires no...
