Porcine Eye Isolation

Porcine eye isolation is a biological dissection technique used to remove an intact eye from a pig specimen for anatomical study, laboratory instruction, or ophthalmic research. The procedure involves exposing the orbit, separating surrounding connective tissues and muscles, and carefully severing the optic nerve and associated attachments while minimizing damage to the globe. Maintaining the eye’s structural integrity preserves features such as the cornea, lens, retina, and sclera for subsequent examination or experimentation. Because porcine eyes share several anatomical characteristics with human eyes, isolated specimens support comparative anatomy, vision science, surgical training, and evaluation of ocular procedures or materials.
