Post-transplant Care

Post-transplant care is the ongoing medical management that supports recovery and protects a transplanted organ or tissue after surgery. It combines immunosuppressive therapy, medication adherence, laboratory testing, and clinical monitoring to limit immune recognition of donor antigens while identifying rejection, infection, or treatment-related complications. Care teams adjust drug doses according to organ function, blood concentrations, symptoms, and other test results, balancing rejection prevention with the risks of excessive immune suppression. This long-term process helps preserve graft function, guides patient education and follow-up, and provides essential biological insight into immune tolerance, host-donor interactions, and transplant outcomes.
