Protein Extraction Protocol

A protein extraction protocol is a set of procedures used to release proteins from cells or tissues and prepare them for analysis, making otherwise inaccessible molecules available for biological research. It typically disrupts cell membranes through mechanical, chemical, or detergent-based lysis in a buffered solution, then separates soluble proteins from cellular debris by centrifugation; temperature control and protease inhibitors can help preserve protein structure and abundance. Extracts support applications such as Western blotting, enzyme assays, electrophoresis, and mass spectrometry, enabling researchers to measure protein expression, characterize function, and compare molecular changes across experimental conditions.

Optimized Protocol for the Extraction of Proteins from the Human Mitral Valve

2017

The protein composition of the human mitral valve is still partially unknown, because its analysis is complicated by low cellularity and therefore by low protein biosynthesis. This work provides a protocol to efficiently extract protein for the analysis of the mitral valve proteome.

Protein Extraction from Neuronal Cells

This protocol outlines the extraction of proteins from neuronal cancer cells. The cells are washed with a buffer and lysed via enzymatic and mechanical disruption. The extracted protein-rich supernatant is collected after centrifugation.

A Simple Protocol for Extracting Hemocytes from Wild Caterpillars

Insect hemocytes carry out many important functions, both immune and non-immune, throughout all stages of insect development. Our present knowledge of hemocyte types and function comes from studies on insect genetic models. Here, we present a method for extracting, quantifying and visualizing hemocytes from wild caterpillars.

SDS-PAGE Based Extraction of Extracellular Vesicles Associated Proteins: A Procedure to Extract Proteins from EVs and Prepare Them for In-Gel Digestion
