Serum Detection

Serum detection is the analytical process of identifying and measuring target molecules in blood serum, the liquid fraction remaining after clotting. It matters because serum contains proteins, antibodies, hormones, metabolites, and other biomarkers that can reflect physiological states or disease processes. In a typical assay, serum is separated from cellular components, combined with reagents that selectively bind or react with the target, and evaluated through an optical, electrical, or enzymatic signal measured against standards or controls. Serum detection supports biological research, clinical testing, biomarker validation, and monitoring, while assay specificity, sensitivity, and sample quality determine how reliably results can be interpreted.

An Assay to Detect Serum Anti-aquaporin-4 Immunoglobulin G

2025

The video demonstrates a cell-based assay for detecting anti-aquaporin-4 immunoglobulin G using a biochip containing untransfected cells and transfected cells expressing aquaporin-4. This method has applications in diagnosing neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders, confirmed by strong green fluorescence on the biochip.

The Hemagglutination Inhibition Assay to Detect Serum Antibodies Against a Target Antigen

2025

The video demonstrates a hemagglutination inhibition assay for detecting serum antibodies against specific antigens. Confirmation of hemagglutination inhibition in the test well and hemagglutination in the control well is achieved through distinct visual patterns. This assay plays a crucial role in assessing immune response, vaccine effectiveness, and studying viral infections in virology and immunology.

Viral Antigen Microarray Assay to Detect Antibody Isotypes in Serum Against Viral Antigen

In this video, we demonstrate the process for detecting antibody isotypes in multiple human serum samples using a microarray slide printed with antigenic subtypes of influenza virus strains.

An Assay to Detect Autoantibodies in Human Serum using a Hippocampal Neuronal Culture

2025

This video demonstrates a technique for identifying antibodies against specific antigens in a sample using a rat hippocampal neuronal culture. By exposing cultured neurons to patient samples containing autoantibodies targeting N-Methyl-D-aspartate receptors (NMDARs), the presence of autoantibodies bound to the neuronal surface is revealed through immunostaining.
