Wrist Flexors

Wrist flexors are muscles and associated tendons on the anterior forearm that bend the hand toward the palm, an action essential for positioning the hand and controlling grip. Their contractile fibers generate tension through the muscle-tendon unit; because these tendons pass in front of the wrist joint, shortening pulls the wrist into flexion, while coordinated activity with finger flexors and extensors stabilizes the hand. Major contributors include flexor carpi radialis, flexor carpi ulnaris, and palmaris longus, whose differing attachments also influence radial or ulnar deviation. Understanding wrist flexors supports the study of upper-limb anatomy, biomechanics, motor control, overuse injury, rehabilitation, and ergonomic design.

Flexor tendons in the hand are commonly injured, leading to impaired hand function. However, the scar-tissue healing response is not well characterized. A murine model of flexor tendon healing is demonstrated here. This model can enhance overall understanding of the healing process and assess therapeutic approaches to improve healing.

Wrist and Hand Examination

Source: Robert E. Sallis, MD. Kaiser Permanente, Fontana, California, USA The wrist is a complex joint made up of 8 carpal bones and their numerous articulations and ligaments. Overlying the wrist are the tendons and muscles of the hand and fingers. The hand is made up of 5 metacarpal bones, and the tendons that run to the hand overlie these bones. Finally, the fingers consist of 14 phalanges with their articulations held together by collateral ligaments and volar plates. Common mechanisms of...

A protocol to evaluate solutions based on commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) wrist wearables to estimate stress in students is proposed. The protocol is carried out in two phases, an initial laboratory-based stress induction test, and a monitoring stage taking place in the classroom while the student is performing academic activities.

Here, we present a “Q” suture technique that can be performed in tendon repair and its effects on the gap formation and tensile strength of the repaired tendons. Q suture is shown to be efficient in enhancing the tensile resistance and tendon repair strength.
