Angiocatheter Urethral Insertion

Angiocatheter urethral insertion is a minimally invasive technique that places a small, flexible catheter through the urethra into the bladder, enabling controlled access to the lower urinary tract. The catheter is advanced carefully through the urethral opening until positioned within the bladder, where fluids can be instilled and then retained or recovered under defined experimental conditions. In cancer research, this approach supports intravesical delivery of drugs, tumor cells, imaging agents, or other test materials in bladder cancer models. Standardized insertion can improve dosing consistency, reduce tissue trauma, and support reproducible studies of treatment response, tumor development, and urinary tract biology.

Nerve-sparing Mid-urethral Obstruction (NeMO) in Female Small Rodents

Traditional modeling of partial bladder outlet obstruction in rodents is fraught with animal mortality. A denervation injury from dissection around the proximal urethra and bladder neck is also of major concern. We developed and evaluated a safe and reliable mid-urethral obstruction model, avoiding the shortcomings of the traditional model.

Urethral Stricture Induction Followed by Buccal Mucosa Graft Urethroplasty in a Rat Model

In the present protocol, a urethral stricture induction was developed in Wistar rats, followed by urethral reconstruction with a buccal mucosa graft. A retrograde urethrogram and laser Doppler assessment were performed, validating urethral reconstruction (after stricture formation) and graft placement.

Peripheral Intravenous Catheter Insertion

2023

Source: Madeline Lassche, MSNEd, RN and Katie Baraki, MSN, RN, College of Nursing, University of Utah, UT The purpose of peripheral intravenous catheter (PIV) insertion is to infuse medications, perform intravenous (IV) fluid therapy, or inject radioactive tracers for special examination procedures. Placing a PIV is an invasive procedure and requires the use of an aseptic, no-touch technique. Common IV venipuncture sites are the arms and hands in adults and the feet in children. According to...

Generating Urinary Tract Infection Model: A Technique to Administer Uropathogenic Bacteria in Mouse to Develop Urinary Tract Infection Model

2025

In this video, we describe the technique for the intravesical administration of uropathogenic bacteria to generate a urinary tract infection model in mice. This model can be used to understand the spread of uropathogenic bacterial infection within the urinary system and the mechanisms that determine UTI susceptibility.
