Local Treatment

Local treatment is an approach that targets a tumor or nearby tissue at the site of disease rather than distributing therapy throughout the body, making it an important strategy in cancer research and care. Depending on the modality, clinicians may remove tumor tissue surgically, deliver radiation to damage cancer-cell DNA, or apply heat, cold, or medication directly to a lesion; these interventions concentrate effects within a defined anatomical region. Local treatment can control or eradicate localized disease while limiting exposure to distant organs, and researchers study it alone or alongside systemic therapies to improve tumor control, reduce toxicity, and support personalized treatment planning.
