Medulloblastoma Cells

Medulloblastoma cells are malignant, rapidly dividing cells that form medulloblastoma, a primary central nervous system tumor arising most often in the cerebellum, and they are studied to understand tumor growth and treatment resistance. Their behavior reflects dysregulated developmental signaling and genetic or epigenetic changes that promote uncontrolled proliferation, survival, and, in some cases, migration through the nervous system or cerebrospinal fluid. Researchers analyze patient-derived cells, tumor organoids, and cell lines to characterize molecular subgroups, test targeted therapies, and model interactions with the tumor microenvironment. These studies support more precise diagnosis, risk assessment, and treatment strategies for children and adults with this aggressive cancer.

This protocol details the derivation of transplantable hematopoietic stem cells from mouse embryonic stem cells (ESC) and their subsequent injection into lethally irradiated recipient mice. Briefly, ESC are differentiated as embryoid bodies, which are then infected with retroviral HoxB4 and co-cultured with OP9 stromal cells and hematopoietic cytokines.
