Mmp9

Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9) is a zinc-dependent extracellular protease that remodels surrounding tissue by cleaving components of the extracellular matrix and basement membrane. Produced as an inactive zymogen, MMP9 is activated outside cells, allowing its catalytic domain to break down substrates such as type IV collagen and regulate tissue remodeling, inflammation, and cell migration. In cancer research, MMP9 is studied for its contributions to tumor invasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis, as well as its potential value as a biomarker or therapeutic target. Measuring MMP9 activity can clarify how tumors interact with and penetrate their microenvironment.
