Sagittal Slice Orientation

Sagittal slice orientation is a way of viewing anatomy in a vertical plane that separates the body into left and right portions, providing a consistent framework for interpreting biological structure. In medical imaging, computer-based reconstruction or physical sectioning aligns specimens or image data with this plane, allowing researchers to examine how tissues, organs, and lesions extend from anterior to posterior and compare their position across adjacent slices. In cancer research, sagittal views support tumor localization, assessment of invasion into nearby structures, treatment planning, and evaluation of changes over time. This orientation also helps correlate imaging findings with pathology and anatomical models.

Oriented Surfaces

2026

A surface is called orientable if a consistent choice of unit normal vector can be made at every point on the surface. A thin soap film stretched across a wire loop provides a familiar example. The film separates the air on one side from the air on the other, so one side can be selected as positive and the opposite side as negative. Once this choice is made, a unit normal vector can be assigned smoothly across the entire surface. At each point on the soap film, a unit normal vector points...

2013

A methodology to estimate ventricular fiber orientations from in vivo images of patient heart geometries for personalized modeling is described. Validation of the methodology performed using normal and failing canine hearts demonstrate that that there are no significant differences between estimated and acquired fiber orientations at a clinically observable level.
