Grams Per Cubic Centimeter

Grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm³) is a unit of density that describes how much mass occupies a given volume, making it useful for identifying and comparing materials in chemistry. Density is calculated by measuring a sample’s mass in grams and dividing it by its volume in cubic centimeters, so the unit expresses mass per unit volume. Chemists use g/cm³ to characterize solids, liquids, and other substances, interpret experimental measurements, and evaluate whether observed values match expected material properties. Because density connects measurable mass and volume, it also supports unit conversions, sample analysis, and calculations involving the composition and behavior of matter.

Supraspinal projections are important for pain perception and other behaviors, and serotonergic fibers are one of these fiber systems. The present study focused on the application of the combined CLARITY/CUBIC protocol to the mouse spinal cord in order to investigate the termination of these serotonergic fibers.

Source: Laboratories of Dr. Ian Pepper and Dr. Charles Gerba - The University of Arizona Demonstrating Author: Luisa Ikner The spectrum of research in environmental microbiology is broad in scope and application potential. Whether the work is bench-scale with known bacterial isolates, or in the field collecting soil or water samples containing unknown bacterial isolates, the ability to quickly and visually discern culturable populations of interest remains of great import to environmental...

We describe procedures for the preparation and delivery of membrane protein microcrystals in lipidic cubic phase for serial crystallography at X-ray free-electron lasers and synchrotron sources. These protocols can also be applied for incorporation and delivery of soluble protein microcrystals, leading to substantially reduced sample consumption compared to liquid injection.

Generation of Spheroplasts from Gram-Negative Bacteria

Source: Figueroa, D. et. al. Production and Visualization of Bacterial Spheroplasts and Protoplasts to Characterize Antimicrobial Peptide Localization. J. Vis. Exp. (2018).This video demonstrates the preparation of spheroplasts from rod-shaped, gram-negative bacteria. Bacteria are grown in the presence of an antibiotic to form elongated filaments. These are washed with a hypertonic solution and treated with a lysis buffer to remove the outer cell wall. Hypotonic treatment forms spheroplasts,...
