Purine Nucleosides

Purine nucleosides are chemical compounds composed of a purine base, such as adenine or guanine, linked to a ribose or deoxyribose sugar, making them essential building blocks of nucleic acids and cellular metabolism. Their properties arise from the N-glycosidic bond joining the sugar’s anomeric carbon to a nitrogen atom in the purine ring, while phosphorylation produces nucleotides with roles in DNA and RNA synthesis and energy transfer. In chemistry, studying purine nucleosides supports understanding of molecular recognition, enzymatic catalysis, and nucleic acid structure. Their derivatives also contribute to biochemical research and the development of therapeutic agents.
