Clinical Practice

Clinical practice is the application of medical knowledge, professional judgment, and ethical standards to prevent, diagnose, manage, and monitor health conditions in individual patients. It combines patient history, physical examination, diagnostic evidence, risk assessment, and shared decision-making to develop and adapt care plans, while considering patient preferences and changing clinical findings. Clinical practice connects biomedical research with real-world care across primary care, hospitals, and specialized settings. Its systematic use supports accurate diagnosis, safe treatment, continuity of care, and improved health outcomes, while also providing a foundation for quality improvement, clinical education, and evidence-based research.

Well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors overexpress somatostatin receptors which can be utilized for diagnostic imaging with the radiolabeled somatostatin analog 68Ga-DOTATATE. This protocol details the radiolabeling of 68Ga-DOTATATE, quality control, patient preparation, and subsequent PET/CT imaging. Radiation safety and time constrictions due to the short half-life of 68Ga are taken into account.

Cutaneous tumors are often discarded following Mohs micrographic surgery. A protocol is described here that enables clinical support staff to effectively process and store cutaneous tumor (e.g., squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma) samples for downstream laboratory applications without interfering with clinical operations.
