Emergency Medicine

Emergency medicine is the medical specialty devoted to the rapid evaluation, stabilization, and treatment of patients with acute illness or injury, often when the diagnosis is uncertain and the risk of deterioration is high. Clinicians use triage, primary assessment of airway, breathing, and circulation, focused history and examination, diagnostic testing, and time-sensitive interventions to identify life threats and guide ongoing care. The field addresses diverse conditions, including trauma, cardiac and respiratory emergencies, infection, poisoning, and sudden neurologic illness. Its principles support resuscitation, critical decision-making, disaster preparedness, and coordinated transitions to inpatient, surgical, or outpatient care.

A Novel Approach for the Administration of Medications and Fluids in Emergency Scenarios and Settings

This study presents a novel device that offers an easy route to quickly provide medications and fluids in patients with limited or difficult IV access. This small-diameter device is placed in the distal third of the rectum, allowing for ongoing medication and fluids administration.
