Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique that allows clinicians to examine or operate within the abdomen or pelvis through small incisions rather than a large open incision. A laparoscope, a slender instrument with a camera and light, transmits magnified images to a monitor, while additional ports allow surgeons to introduce specialized instruments, often after insufflating the abdominal cavity with carbon dioxide to create working space. In clinical practice, laparoscopy supports diagnostic evaluation and procedures such as tissue biopsy, gallbladder removal, hernia repair, and gynecologic surgery. Compared with open surgery, it can reduce incision size and may support faster recovery, while requiring specialized training and careful patient selection.

Deep Neuromuscular Blockade Leads to a Larger Intraabdominal Volume During Laparoscopy

This article presents a method for measuring the working abdominal volume during laproscopic myomectomy using the surgical grasper, and applies this technique to obtain pilot data on whether deep neuromuscular blockade (NMB) can enable the use of lower insufflation pressure. Reduced insufflation pressure during laproscopic surgery has been shown to reduce post-operative pain, and thus the use of NMB during surgery may enable improved patient outcomes.

Neuronavigation and Laparoscopy Guided Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt Insertion for the Treatment of Hydrocephalus

Patient outcomes of ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt surgery, the mainstay treatment for hydrocephalus in adults, are poor due to high shunt failure rates. We present intraoperative footage of VP shunt insertion using neuronavigation and laparoscopy guidance, with the goal to reduce the risks of proximal and distal shunt catheter failures, respectively.

Laparoscopy-endoscopy cooperative surgery is appropriate for the treatment of gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors less than 5 cm in size. It can achieve the respective advantages of endoscopic and laparoscopic surgeries while avoiding their drawbacks.

Embryo Transfer Into Rabbit: A Procedure for Laparoscopy-Guided Transfer of Embryos Into Oviduct of Ovulating Recipient Female Rabbit Model

2025

This video describes the technique of transferring embryos into the oviduct of a recipient female rabbit via Laparoscopy. It allows embryo remodeling in rabbits during its migration through the oviduct, eventually helping in successful implantation. This technique can also be used for stored embryos with good efficiency.
