Occupational Health Nurses

Occupational health nurses are registered nurses who protect and promote health in workplaces by combining clinical care with prevention, risk assessment, and employee education. They evaluate injuries and illnesses, identify exposure to physical, chemical, biological, or ergonomic hazards, and use health surveillance, immunization, screening, and evidence-based protocols to reduce occupational risk. In clinical practice, they coordinate first aid, treatment referrals, return-to-work planning, and case management while supporting regulatory compliance and emergency preparedness. Their work connects individual patient care with population health, helping organizations prevent disease and injury, improve worker well-being, and build safer, more productive environments.

Nursing Assessment of the Genitourinary System I: Health History

2025

The genitourinary system is critical to maintaining fluid balance, waste elimination, and reproductive function. Nurses play a vital role in assessing this system, beginning with a thorough health history. This process involves gathering patient information, identifying risk factors, and recognizing symptoms of genitourinary disorders. Early detection is vital for timely interventions and management.1. Gathering Patient InformationA complete health history includes the patient’s personal,...

Collection and Extraction of Occupational Air Samples for Analysis of Fungal DNA

Determining the fungal diversity within an environment is a method utilized in occupational health studies to identify health hazards. This protocol describes DNA extraction from occupational air samples for amplification and sequencing of fungal ITS regions. This approach detects many fungal species that can be overlooked by traditional assessment methods.

Position a human participant’s head within the head coil of a functional magnetic resonance imaging, or fMRI, system.Employ vascular space occupancy or VASO, a technique to measure changes in cerebral blood volume, or CBV, the blood volume within the brain.Begin by applying an inversion recovery pulse to suppress signals from blood, allowing only signals from the surrounding tissue within the region to be detected.Next, use MRI-compatible earbuds to deliver auditory stimuli. The stimuli reach...

Methods to Investigate the Regulatory Role of Small RNAs and Ribosomal Occupancy of Plasmodium falciparum

2015

Human microRNAs translocate from host erythrocytes to Plasmodium falciparum parasites. Here, the techniques used to transfect synthetic microRNAs into host erythrocytes and isolate all RNAs from P. falciparum are described. In addition, this paper will detail a method of polysome isolation in P. falciparum to determine the ribosomal occupancy and translational potential of parasite transcripts.
