Peritoneal Irritation

Peritoneal irritation is an inflammatory or chemical response of the peritoneum, the membrane lining the abdominal cavity and covering many abdominal organs, and it is an important clinical sign of potentially serious disease. Irritation activates sensory nerve endings, producing localized or diffuse abdominal pain that may worsen with movement and trigger involuntary muscle guarding, rigidity, or rebound tenderness. Clinicians assess these findings alongside the patient’s history, vital signs, laboratory results, and imaging to distinguish conditions such as appendicitis, perforation, infection, or internal bleeding. Prompt recognition helps guide urgent treatment, including surgical evaluation, antimicrobial therapy, fluid resuscitation, and monitoring for peritonitis or sepsis.

We have developed an eye irritation test which utilizes a three dimensional reconstructed human cornea-like epithelial (RhCE) tissue model. The test is able to discriminate between ocular irritant and corrosive materials (GHS Categories 1 and 2 combined) and those that do not require labeling (GHS No Category).

DefinitionIrritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional gastrointestinal disorder characterized by recurrent combinations of abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, or constipation.Pathophysiology of irritable bowel syndromeIts pathophysiology is multifactorial, involving disturbances in motility, sensory processing, microbial balance, barrier integrity, and gut–brain communication. These mechanisms interact to produce symptoms that vary across IBS subtypes.Altered Motility PatternsDisordered...

2025

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is characterized by functional disturbances in the gastrointestinal system, presenting a cluster of symptoms without evident structural or biochemical abnormalities. It primarily affects the large intestine and may cause abdominal pain, bloating, excessive gas, diarrhea, constipation, or both. IBS is a chronic condition that can persist over a long period or recur frequently. The pathogenesis of IBS involves a complex interplay of the following factors: Altered...

The peritoneal cavity in mammals contains different immune cell populations crucial for innate immune responses. An efficient isolation method is required for biochemical and functional analyses of these cells. Here we provide a comprehensive method for the isolation of peritoneal cavity cells in the mouse.
