Tachycardia

Tachycardia is a heart rate faster than 100 beats per minute in adults at rest, and it may reflect a normal response or an abnormal cardiac rhythm requiring clinical evaluation. It can arise from increased sinus node activity during exercise, fever, or stress, or from abnormal electrical circuits involving reentry, enhanced automaticity, or triggered activity in the atria or ventricles. Clinicians assess symptoms, vital signs, electrocardiograms, and possible underlying causes such as anemia, infection, medication effects, or heart disease. Recognizing the rhythm and its cause guides management, which may include treating the trigger, controlling the rate, restoring normal rhythm, or providing urgent care when circulation is compromised.

2013

A methodology to estimate ventricular fiber orientations from in vivo images of patient heart geometries for personalized modeling is described. Validation of the methodology performed using normal and failing canine hearts demonstrate that that there are no significant differences between estimated and acquired fiber orientations at a clinically observable level.
